4 picnic places with a difference

Eating on the beach is definitely a Guernsey tradition. From chips down at Cobo, ice creams at Havelet, to sandwiches on Les Amarreurs, there can’t possibly be a better way to enjoy a summer meal time. Despite the picturesque setting there is one dreaded flaw of this otherwise relaxing pastime- sand in your food.

However there is a solution to this troublesome issue. Enjoy the views, weather and fun of eating on the beach without the sand and try a pier picnic. Guernsey’s pretty granite piers reaching out into the sea provide the perfect setting for eating outside. They provide a whole new perspective as you look ahead to the beach or land in front of you. There is nothing more relaxing than watching the tide rise around you, seeing fishermen returning with the day’s catch or watching the sun set in the distance. Piers provide the ideal place to enjoy a refreshing pre or post dinner dip too. All in all a great way to spend a Guernsey summers evening.

Check out our list of perfect picnic piers and get out and about this summer to enjoy at least one of them and your dinner without the sand…

    Port Grat

One of the quietest piers, Port Grat is one of the most stunning beaches on the island but often forgotten by the crowds. Parking just above makes this perfect for transporting your feast onto the pier.

    Saints Bay from the pier

    Saints Bay

Best for lunch whilst the sun is still high enough to warm up the bay. Saints Bay pier is ideal for watching fisherman arrive back after a days work.

    Pleimont Point Walk Guernsey

    Portlet

The ideal spot to watch the sun go down as you eat. The stunning views over Rocquaine and Lihou make up for the slightly longer walk back from the car.

    Les Amarreurs View

    Les Amarreurs

If you are looking to enjoy a dip and dine then this is the perfect place. Les Amarreurs is nestled within the larger Grande Harve Bay and the pier has beautiful views all around the surrounding areas.
